Hi all, newbie here
« on: November 24, 2008, 11:07:42 AM »
I have an Edirol 09, but no external mics or preamp / battery box, whatever. I have done a couple of gigs using the internal mics, 1st one came out well, but quiet in parts, the 2nd one tho was very heavy on the bass.  I use cool edit pro for editing / splitting the tracks, is there any better software for reducing the bass thud thud thud from the recording, otherwise its very clear, just a bit low on the guitars.

If Im buying a preamp or external mics, is there something which reduces the bass level without compromising the clearer sound?

Some preamps have a bass roll-off or High Pass Filter...

You can try the "low cut" or "high pass" filter on the back of the R09, it might help a bit.

Another new taper (Alan) is pulling some amazing tapes with my old Church Audio cards running mic-in into his R09HR without any preamp or battery box.  They have enough natural roll off that you won't have to use any additional rolloff.

Also, some battery boxes have a bass roll off as well.  I know my old box from sound professionals does, but the batt box and preamp options only help if you're using an external set of mics.

You don't need Roll off, you can always run it through a High Pass Filter in post...lot easier to take it out if its too much then to add something you don't have if its to little

Use the EQ function in Cool Edit to roll off the bass frequencies.   Real easy to do.

For splitting files into tracks CDWave has become the standard.   www.cdwave.com
