Any way to salvage a recording with one really chatty channel?

The right channel has really loud chatting noise to the point of being 'un-listenable' IMO, but the left channel is pretty much fine. I know I can copy the left channel into the right one, making it a mono tape, but is there any way to help artificially create some stereo 'feel' to it? Or maybe create a new right channel with 50% original left channel and 50% original right channel to keep some stereo image but decrease the intrusive chatting in the original right channel? Would that be effective at all? Guess there's no way to know except trying it out.

off the top of my head sound forge has a stereo simulation section under their channel mixer. try playing around with that. also try doing a search, i think i've addressed this topic before as have others.

SoundForge can do exactly what you propose. Click Process > Channel Converter > Select "Stereo to Stereo, Pan Centre" and you can adjust how much of the good channel is "used in the bad one simply by dragging sliders. .

Try borrowing MK-41's to use in the chatty environment next time, may help a lot.
As for software fixes, i use Reaper....has what you need to mix more of the good
channel with less of the offending one.
