please help recomend a setup
« on: May 22, 2009, 03:56:33 PM »
I'm looking to get back into recording and need some advice on a setup.  I'll be recording mostly bluegrass with soundboard access.  I think my budget before mics is around $600.  I'll make the mics my second round of purchases since it looks like everything I will want to tape this summer will be SB.
Are there any options in this range that will allow me to record a matrix with one recorder?  I'm sure a 4 track recorder is out of my budget, but I think I remember reading that it is possible to do "on the fly" matrix' with the ua-5.
Thanks in advance.
Paul

I don't know if it's possible with a UA-5, but (assuming you will have ac power) you could get one of those Behringer mixers for under $100, and an R-09 or some other bit bucket. But in my experience, mixing on the fly is pretty tough. Why not get two cheap recorders, do the mixing on post?

Here's a mixer for $59:
