Port Forward help
« on: June 23, 2009, 12:29:32 PM »
I'm pulling my hair out.

I'm following these instructions..

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/A90-220015-04/Utorrent.htm

But when I put in my IP address it asks me for the network username and password.  What is this?  Nothing I try works.  Errrr.

Well I figured out the above but have run into another issue.  I'm following these instructions..

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Westell/A90-220015-04/Utorrent.htm

But I don't get brought to the Westell page like it shows but to a Verizon page.  I found the port forwarding area but just can't figure it out.  Any FIOS users care to enlighten me?

my suggestion is to turn that modem into a passthrough device and buy yourself a standalone router/switch i like the linksys 54gL.  this give lots of possibilities. just my opinion

Why?  The modem is a router as well.  I just want to forward a port for Utorrent.  Surely this can't be that hard?

I got it.  Jeese that was a pain in the arse.   :P

EDIT:  For future users who have trouble with FIOS follow this.  Works perfect!

first i am glad you got it working.

Now why would I suggest it? for your setup you may not need it. But with the router it is possible to do QOS.  This allows you to prioritize network traffic.  I have mine setup so that http, https, ssh, and ack have the highest priority and the ports i use for torrents have the lowest priority.  This allows me to run torrents at all times without slowing down web surfing and my ssh (which i use at work as a tunnel >:D ).  I do this not only for myself but because of the roomates i have.  It isn't very kind of me to take up all the bandwidth and slow them down.  That is why I do it.  you may not need this.
