Sound Forge resampling

Could someone please tell me how to properly resample using Sound Forge 9? I have a 24/48 recording and would like to lower it to 16/44. Any tips are highly appreciated.

Honestly, I would get this product to do it.

Click on the "free product" button, top right, Install per instructions, and then just set your sr and br in the appropriate windows and hit go.

Resample first, then dither.  You want to do all editing prior to dithering from 24bit to 16bit. 

I use SF 7.0 so I'm assuming the layout is the same.

Process > Resample > Set sample rate to 44.1k > Check box for Anti-Alias filter and set the Interpolation accuracy to HIGH.

For Dithering, Process > Bit-Depth Converter > Set bit depth to 16bit.  I use 'Triangular' dither with 'Equal Loudness Contour' for noise shaping.  You can test out the other noise shaping algorithms and see if like one better than the others.

I don't have version 9, but in version 7 you'd use "Resample" from the "Process" menu to convert to 44.1, then "Bit-Depth Converter" (also in the "Process" menu) to convert to 16-bit.

Be sure to use dither--which should really be the default setting--and don't just use "Save As ..." to save the 44.1/24 file to 16 bits; I'm fairly sure that would truncate the samples.

I'll confirm that both options are under the process menu in version 9.0 and saving without dithering will indeed truncate bits (and it's noticeably audible).
