Hi Olle (from Sweden?),

Why not run both, for a 4tr comparison?!
It would be a nice favor to the community here...

But the obvious advantage of the Core Sounds is less handling noise and easier placement (stealth and better stereo imaging).
And I would guess that the specs (frequency response, max SPL etc) are better for the Core's too:

I'd be curious if you did a 4tr test next time you tape. Post your results here!

That would be great info. However AFAIK the H4n mics are Omni so its a bit apple to oranges

Yeah, I was looking for specs on the internal mics too, but the official site is totally devoid of anything useful. No max SPL, no freq response, no S/N ratio, no pattern plots!  ::)

Both online manuals (H4 and H4n) state the mics are unidirectional condenser mics. Thus the XY pattern. They are not omnidirectional.

Hi! I was looking for some info on those internal mics. I haven't bought one of those units, but had a few questions about its' usefulness, considering I've got a lot more mileage out of a Microtrack and a pair of Church-Audio CA-11 cards than anyone would have had me believe. I'm confused by the specs in that manual for those built-in mics, though. Normally, I'm used to seeing something like "Frequency Response" or "20 - 20,000 Hz" or something like that. The only thing I see in the manual is "Gain +7dB _ +47dB". Ummmm.... I don't get what that is referring to, I guess...
