I already have an Edirol R09, and I'm on the market for mics.

Since I always need to be stealth or very very stealth (read metal detector, body search, and tight security), I'm lookig for mics without battery box.

If you're paranoid about the size, the recorder is your biggest payload. Consider shifting to a Tascam DR-07, or even one of those tiny sub-100gram Japanese 16/48 recorders (Sanyo, Olympus, Sony) that have been released over the year.

Don't sweat over the bbox. Take a look at the Church minimal bbox, you could bring that into Pentagon! Or the CA-UGLY preamp, still a fraction of the size of your recorder.
Mics: A-51s LE, CK 930, Line Audo CM3, AT853Rx (hc,c,sc),  ECM 121, ECM 909A
Pres: Tinybox, CA-9100, UA5 wmod
Recorders: M10, H116 (CF mod), H340, NJB3
Gearbag: High Sierra Corkscrew
MD transfers: MZ-RH1. Tape transfers: Nak DR-1
Photo rig: Nikon D70, 18-70mm/3.5-4.5, SB-800

DPA 4061 > battery box > R09 all the way.

If you like stack taping, these mics can't be beat IMO. (Btw, you will need the 4061s. The 4060s will overload in some situations.)

Do you use the Core Sound DPA package to go DPA > batt box > R09?  Or is there another battery box solution for the DPAs that gives 1/8" out to the R09?

You might also check out the SP-CMC-8 (AT943) cardioid mics.  I've been using them for a while and like them a lot.

Totally agree with what someone wrote earlier about crowds talking more nowadays.  I typically use cards even when stack taping and it filters out a lot of the crowd noise, although I would like to try some omnis (maybe the DPAs) in the same setting to compare.
AKG ck61/ck63 > Naiant couplings > Naiant Tinybox > M10
CA-14 cards/omnis > SP-SPSB-8 > M10

I love my DPAs, and no question in my mind that they are one of the best Omnis out there.  Absolutely beautiful sounding.  I will say that in almost every taping situation, I go for Cards.  I do like to use Omnis in small clubs where I am up front, in front of the sound system.
