Windows sound on my recording??
« on: November 11, 2009, 02:47:58 PM »
OK, I have no idea where this came from but I just went in to chop up my 11/1/09 acoustic set into tracks and there is a Windows sound (blip) as if it has found an available wireless signal.  This was recorded on a R-44, transferred over to a external hard drive and edited on my laptop.  There was NO recording done on the laptop.  Only a montage, dither, resample and fades.

Jesus, I just checked my master and it is there too.  Maybe it just sounds the same?  WTF.  My mics were 15' in the air.  I will see if I can cut out the sample for others to listen to.

I'm guessing your mics heard one of the guys laptops in the scaffolding in the FOH area. I ran as far right as I could out of fear of that. 15' up on the back of the FOH area would have put you about 8' from them, right in your mics focus area. I'm sure they would pick up just about anything they were doing. Just a speculation...

And now that I listen with headphones on I think that maybe it might be fishman tapping something percussive.  Can someone else listen to the sound attached and then their recording and tell me if you hear something similar?  It occurs right at the beginning of the acoustic set in between Trey saying what a wonderful experience this has been and the first tune.

Obviously, the entire festival was pre-recorded, the band was lip-syncing and ghost-playing their instruments, and the computer responsible for playback hiccuped...but still, you were all fooled into thinking it was a "live" performance.  :P

Sorry, I'm no help.

I had heard those rumors.  Does it at least sound like a Micro$lut noise to you Brian?

yeah, thats in mine as well, its right before the set starts, someone clucks their tongue off the top of their mouth on stage(I think, I can't say I was watching it happen but thats what it sounds like). Its definitely not a computer sound.

Thanks J!  I was obviously freaking out and thought that I was going to have to filter through my recordings with a fine toothed comb.  :Sigh of relief:

FWIW my matrices of 10/30 and 10/31 are up on CATapers.

Awesome. David said you were like The Wolf in Pulp Fiction. Shows up just in time with tons of gear, does a pro job, and disappears into the night! :-)
