is line in in stereo possible in vista?

can't seem to figure this out.  i have audacity1.2.6 and have tried all the options.  i have heard rumors that vista is incapable of this to help "stop copyright infringement."  javascript:void(0);  seeing as how my JB3 might be starting to crap out, it would be great if i could record directly to my laptop?  anyone with experience on this?
