Gefell announces UM70s/MV692 limited production run
« on: February 10, 2010, 04:53:08 PM »
Back by popular demand, MTG has responded to Mercenary's special request to continue production of the UM70s/MV692. I am told this next production run will be limited, and in short supply. As to the number, I do not know, but limited is the key word. These microphones have only ever been available as special order from MTG, if available at the time of the inquiry. The price for the UM70s/MV692 will be $1850 USD, and the first batch of five units will be delivered sometime in February 2010. They are exclusively available at Mercenary Audio.

Very cool.

Buying these vintage mics off of eBay is a crapshoot.  Every RFT mv692 that I have ever purchased was "calibrated, reworked and upgraded" by Peter Drefahl of www.drefahlaudio.com.  The older "noisy" mv692 RFT components were replaced and a professional conversion to XLR performed by Peter.  It would have probably been just as economical to buy them new from Gefell.  BTW, I also own a pair of the new, modern day mv692's.

As for the UM70's.  I was able to purchase a pair of NOS UM70's that were given the two thumbs up by Peter Drefahl as a matched pair.   :)  I did receive a few "eBay duds" in my search for UM70's which were promptly returned to the seller until I got the new, mint caps that I was looking for.  If I didn't already have Grade A versions of these mics I'd certainly take a hard look at these.

Yep - nice mic cases.  Peter Drefahl is a top notch "european mic" technician, mic historian and one hell of a nice guy to boot.  Peter built the power supply and cables for my Neumann/Gefell m582 pair.  In fact he serviced the m582 pair and supplied a tube for one of the mics.  I cannot recommend Peter Drefahl highly enough!!
