those church mics are probably too small for this fix... but i have seen on more than one occasion a pair of tube socks as a makeshift windscreen...

maybe wool glove fingers?

while camping one weekend, I realized I forgot my windscreens for a Sunday show I was hitting on my way home.  In a pinch, I stopped at a dollar store, and picked up some generic nerf basketball sets (the kind you hang on the back of your door) and went next door to the joann fabrics, and picked up a yard of fake fur.  Total investment was around 5 dollars.

You might be able to find a windscreen at radio shack to cut up and fit them for the church cards, or wonder around, and see what you can come up with.  I would test at home before using any MacGyver solution to make sure you'll be happy with the results before the show.

Sorry if I am missing the obvious, but how did you use the basketballs? Were they open foam and you made a hole for the mic then cover them with the fake fur? Usually, I've noticed those nerf-type balls are closed foam? ???

My buddy and I use the "Dead Teddies"... Between my kids and Gary's kids, we have enough stuffed animals to supply all of TS ;D

What we did was chop off the arms and pulled out the stuffing from a Teddy Bear and used the arms as the windscreens... They fit really well and we just used bread ties to secure them on the mount. Still got some wind in the recording, but not a lot. I love DIY stuff.

Here is a sample of the Los Lobos show I did, and the wind was so bad I thought the stand was gonna take a tumble.
