sony pcm m10/ line in problem

just got my new recorder today  and having problem using line in. the regular mic jack works fine but cant seem to get anything going from line in.any thoughts would be grateful.

Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
