Maybe you could mount the mics in the ceiling. Maybe you could put up a mic stand and have guard it so that it doesn't get hit... I find that figuring stuff like that out is part of the fun of recording.

I've seen a few wives, some of them not particularly big, who make excellent blockers. They have that attitude of a junk yard dog... and it's great to see them focus that energy towards someone besides the husbands on occasion.
