Edirol R-09 problems
« on: July 20, 2010, 07:28:29 AM »
This is getting weird. Several switches don't seem to work anymore:
Hold is always OFF no matter what position the switch is in. ("Hold is on" message doesn't appear on the screen either.)
AGC is always ON.  :o
Low Cut is always ON.

I can disable AGC and Low Cut via test mode > debug > parameter etc. but as soon as I turn the unit off an on again, the problem is back.
The actual switches seem fine, so I don't think this is a mechanical problem.

Firmware is 1.31.

Any help would be appreciated.

Seeing that you were in test mode, can you do a full factory recall to your deck?  I'm thinking something may have been changed by accident (it's easy enough to do).

Barring that, can you find a way of reflashing the firmware?  That should rewrite all of your settings.

Thanks!
I did the factory reset, but the problem remains.
BTW, the firmware is still 1.31 after the reset. Is that normal?

It should remain 1.31 (most current firmware for the original R09).  Did you do the full reset from within TEST mode? Possibly try reloading the firmware - I can't recall off hand if you can "upgrade" to the same firmware once it's loaded.  I do recall that the the firmware update flips all of your settings back to default that you've made (including those in TEST mode).

How does one do a reset from within test mode?

I ran the function test while in test mode, and it turns out that hold and all four switches on the back don't work.

I believe it's FLUSH-SW which is on the last page of the instructions found here: http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=136640.msg1778061#msg1778061.  You'll likely need to re-load your firmware.

Flush-SW can be turned ON or OFF. Are you sure that resets the unit?

Btw, I did reload the firmware (1.31) and it didn't help.

Did it get a soda spilled on it?  Something shorting out the contacts the switches press on?  I would pull the batteries, disassemble, clean contacts with a clean rag and plain water or isopropyl alcohol.  Leave to dry, reassemble.

No spills whatsoever.
I will try to clean the switches though.
Thanks guys!

quick update: I was able to fix the switches on the back. The connection between the PCB on which the switches are mounted and the bigger PCB had become loose.

HOLD still doesn't work, and I have no idea why.  ???
