Portabrace AO-2X with V3, 722
« on: August 10, 2010, 07:43:09 AM »
Guys,

Was wondering how you packaged your V2 / V3 and/or 722 in a Portabrace AO-2x case?  I got some stilts from Ted for my V3 which are nice, but a good portion of the v3 now hangs out of the top of the AO-2x case.  Short of hacking ALL my cables into right angles and / or modifying the stilts, do you guys do anything clever for storage of your gear in this configuration?  How do you protect the cables in the backside of the V3?

Pics would be awesome, but descriptions will help too obviously.

hmm.  My cables are all chopped but with the stilts it goes right to the lip.  Perfect fit.

Yeah, same setup if I use a deep battery for the 722, comes just to the lip of the bag. I actually have to remove it from the AR-7 to get it to fit in my AO-1X.

Mark's pics are how everyone I know runs their stuff in the portabrace. Shorten your stilts and get RA connector ends is my advice.

Mark, are your stilts chopped?  Did you make your own or did Ted make them for you?

I made my own.  Not really stilts either.  I cut out a whole frame with a cradle in the center for the 744 on the laser and formed it up..

I got some right angle cables to work with everything plus I put my stilts on velcro so that I can adjust them... I should have the whole thing setup by next week and will snap some pics to display for everyone.

The AO-2X is a nice bag, but when you load up the front, back, and side pockets it's big!  Luckily even with its width, it fits into an amphitheater seat.

Glad I got the rain slick for it too!  Kind of a pain in the ass to work with, but it's better than a trash bag!

I agree, it's a pain to get it on and work with it, but I find it does make some things easier to deal with in the rain.

With that in mind, keep an ultra jumbo size trash bag with you though (clear if possible). Someone else might need one in a pinch, or you can use it to setup and take down in the rain with (relative) ease compared to having to work under just an umbrella.

Are those 2 V2s and the 744 just smashed in there or did you somehow expand the portabrace?  Just got this thing the other day....

Mark, any chance you can take some pics of the rest of the bag, namely what is stored in the main compartment alongside the V2s and 744?  Also would be interested to see what you're doing with all the other storage areas.  Great bag for sure.  I LOVE mine.

Also check my question from earlier... looks pretty damn tight to fit 2 V2s and a 744 in there... my AO-2X gives me the impression I'd have to somehow expand it to fit what you are fitting in your bag.

As a result of this post and several emails, I'm trying to work the heaviest gear bag of all time, but man I love it.  Got some awesome Darktrain right angles out of the V3 and a Mod-sbm just for old school / experimentation sake.  My 140s are in those yellow Pelican cases in the final pic on the right.  Rain slick is in the back compartment out of view.

The CP you have the DPAs in is also the perfect size for carrying a set of Shure A81WS. Surprised it doesn't get mentioned more often here as a great little bag for all kinds of miscellaneous items besides being ideal for screens.

CP pouch is awesome.  I couldn't make up my mind about hooking it to one of the metal rings or using the shoulder strap sleeve.  Either way, for an additional $12 or $13 once you've got this bag, plus the rain slick in your shopping cart... it's a no brainer.
