Karma K10
« on: September 23, 2010, 11:47:14 AM »
Curious as to anyone's experience's with this mic.  did a search on the LMA and got a few hits.  Bottom line is I am looking for a cheap set of SDC.  along the lines of the CAD E70, ADK SC-t, or these Karma K-10's.   Didn't really like the MXl 603's, unless they were being modded, And of the mic's I listed I had a set of ADK's and liked those.  But the K 10 sounded pretty damn good on the DSO show I found.  Crisp highs and full low end.  Better detail than the E70's which seemed a little grainy on the top end.  But that could be attributed to the venue sound also.  So, I was wondering what y'all might have to say.  I want to stay in the 150 price range.  Maybe y'all have some suggestions. I owned a pair of NT-5 and did not like them, too brittle sounding on the top end to me.  And of course if I spent more there would be more options.  But that's not the route I'm taking.  These are a secondary set of mics that need to have a decent sound yet can handle being used as drum overheeds too(read high spl). Thanks in advance, Kirk

I just about pulled the trigger on a set of these off ebay (back before I snagged my e70's). If anyone has a set of these I would love to hear what you think of them or another pull... I was very interested in these as all audio samples I dig up sound great!

I bought several pair of K10's over the years.  Every pair was different, they keep making changes.  The new body style looks really nice and still only $150/pair.

Those k10 recordings on archive are mine.   the 7/4 and 7/5 DSO shows are a good example of how the mics sound.  I've used them for stage lip, OTS, FOB indoors and out.  I honestly don't think there is a nicer pair of SDC at that price.  I have owned many other SDC pairs including the NT5, NT6, Studio Pprojects C4 and pelusos.  I like the K10 better than all of them.    The only downside is they are fixed cardioid.  If you need an omni or hyper the C4 or peluso is a better choice....

I compared the K-10 against Pelso's and Rode recordings all of DSO..trying to keep the source as close as possible and I have to say so far I dig 'em better than the  Pelso's and the rode's.  And after listening to the E70's and the SP C4's I still like them better.   So I'm guessing I' most likely be grabbing a set.  They just seem to have the sound I like with the solid low and good mid to hi range with a nice up front feel.

I agree that the SP's are decent sounding and mixed cap sets is cool but I think the Mid & hi's of the K-10 puts them a notch above for my particular tastes.  Plus to me...and I'm old and deaf...they sound a little more transparent than the C4's.

I agree they have great mids/highs (from the dso samples). let me know how you like them Kirk! I love trying out new mics! I may have to snag a pair and running them along-side the e70's doing a matrix of the two. I think they may compliment each other fairly well. e70's low end mixed with the clean mids/highs of the k10's could be interesting.. I have been thinking about trying the electrolytic cap mod on the e70s to tighten up the low end even more.
