Recent recording - for review - please help
« on: October 09, 2010, 10:04:58 PM »
Here's a short sample of a recent recording. Is there a better way to upload files for review? Anyway, made in a small jazz club from stereo XY pair. Seems pretty clean and noise-free, but balance is off and could be a bit louder. Trumpet about 6db hotter than the rest of the band. You can hear the difference when the sax plays.

Anyone please tell me what you would do in post, if anything. How best to tone down that horn without screwing up anything else? I have played with EQ, compressor/expander, hard limit, normalize, and mastering effects in Audition. Seems all these things do is make everything louder, and the more I do, the worse it sounds.
