Topic: How to check for 24 bit frequencies? PC

I remember seeing a discussion here (or maybe elsewhere) a while back that talked about frequency analysis of 24 bit wav files, specifically to see if the frequency spectrum was actually in the realm of 24 bit, instead of 16 bit audio file that's been saved as 24 bit...without actually having those extra 8 bits.

What program for PC can I use for this?

What do you use for your editing? If your looking to check for premature truncation than find a bit analyser plugin or similar function built into your editor.

I'm using Sound Forge 9. Never thought to look for a plug-in for this task. Can you recommend one?

I think you're confusing frequency analysis with bit depth analysis.  They're two different animals, entirely.

For bit depth, you might try Bitter VST.  I haven't used it in quite some time, but my vague recollection is that it will display the actual bit depth of the audio.

I was going to suggest that, or a demo copy of Ozone would even work. (Thats the one I use)

I'll chime in with a thanks, and let you know that Bitter also makes an AU format that is Mac native.  The VST version should work cross platform, but the installer is a .exe file, so it presents  a problem for some Mac users.

I know the post was asking specifically about PCs, but this is useful stuff for Mac users as well.

Forgot to mention above, it's the same thing in Ozone. Only shows while stuffs playing in the background.
