PLAYBACK SLOW TO START IN SOUND FORGE 10 PRO
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:59:36 PM »
Hi folks. This one has me stumped!!
My Focusrite Saffire Pro14 firewire audio interface is working great! Things are incredibly snappy in all programs - for example, round trip latency under 10 milliseconds in Cakewalk Sonar.

But, trying to play anything in Sound Forge is sluggish - playback starts after several seconds!
Or rather, sometimes playback begins after an interval of anywhere from half a second to several seconds, and I have yet to discern a pattern to this behavior.

Nothing is sharing my firewire port or trying to.  This problem only happens in Sound Forge.

I can't find much to adjust, since using ASIO, almost all control parameters like routing and buffer settings are controlled elsewhere. All I can find to adjust in SF itself are picking the right output device from a list, and making sure I have the right things set under playback and recording routing.

I'm running Win7 64-bit, a solidstate drivesystem drive and separate audio drive, 16gb ram, AMD quad-core CPU at 3.4GHZ. and, things are just beautiful in any other program on the system when I tell it to send audio through the Focusrite interface... but not Sound Forge.

I've tried reinstalling SF and patching to the latest version, 10.0C build 491, with no luck either.

So, is there anything else I can check???

SF seems to depend in part on .net framework stuff from Microsoft. i don't know anything about that, but does it have any bearring on my problem, or might it?

thanks for any suggestions guys.

Chris

FIXED! no thanks to Sony.  The problem is some sort of conflict between Focusrite's latest firewire driver for their Saffire interfaces. If you install Mix Control 2.4, included is FW-Driver: 3.5.6.11675.  My sluggish playback start disappeared when I went back to Mix Control 2.2, which contains FW-Driver: 3.5.3.8786.
