Topic: Transporting ADK TL and shocks

How do you guys transport the large diaphragm condenser microphones to shows? The mics will fit in the larger cigar caddy but what about the shocks mounts? 

I found a pair of unmatched ADK TL so came in separate flight cases.  They are in very nice shape and don't want to mess them up.  I've only used them at home and working on getting a preamp for them.  Probably, a USBPre2 since it does ADC and DAC in one device.

When I run the TLs these days I'm running three of them in their supermount shocks in a small Decca tree-like setup.  I carry in the supermount shocks already bolted to a folding 3-leg mount, detached from the stand.  That 3 leg assembly folds up and is carried along with the stand in hand, along with the recorder bag.  I either carry the TLs themselves in their road case (the three TLs all fit into the ADK stereo TL suitcase without the shockmounts in there), or in big ziplocks in my recorder bag, protected with foam and windscreens from impact inside the bag.

I've looked at Binocular Cases at our local Army Surplus store...  But I've never really looked that hard since my flight case holds both mics...

Since my LD mics are about the width and length of many camera lenses, I stuff mine into foam protectors meant for lenses that then fit inside the individual compartments of a large Domke bag. The bulky Rycote foam windshields go into other compartments in the same bag. I've also got the Rycote shock mounts for LD mics; I love the design of those mounts but, because they take up so much room, I've ended up using AT8471's that are really meant for pencil mics and will fit into much smaller spaces.

The windscreens provide good padding. I just lay them in my bag on top of all the other gear.  I have the supermounts connected to a custom T-bar, and either carry that in my other hand or tie it to the outside of my backpack.

Brilliant Gutbucket and thanks for the photos.  I'm going to try this.  I think the windscreen would provide enough cushion especial inside the cups inside a padded bag and be able to put the shocks on top.  Thanks for all the responds and ideas.  Now that you guys mention it I do remember seeing people carrying their shocks around on the stands. 

Can't wait to try them out.  I will still have to run the AKG ck61 but would be nice to run the ADK TL hyper.  Mostly need them to run figure 8 at a local venue with the PA speakers (playin' some swamp pop) at the back of a small floor and facing the stage, weird configuration but due to space and outdoor in a neighborhood.

I used to put my Busman LD's in "dead rats" and then put those in a pair if plastic tennis ball cans.  Fit perfect, and had a lid for the cans if needed.  Windscreen and mounts went where ever they would fit in my bag.

I bought them origionally to have the figure 8 pattern and they are great for that.  I mosty use them as 8s or supercards.

Here's Blumlein crossed 8's, the lower photos show a single wrap of wind-fur around both mics over the foams (just a cut square section of fur-faced fabric, no sewing) tucked into the shocks at the top and bottom-
