Hi Folks!

I have got both the CA 11 and CA 14.
And in my opinion my CA 11 have a better bass record.
The CA14 bassdrum doesn´t really sound like its distoring, but a "little".

I record "rock" not to loud, with a battery box and an I River H120 with safety clip.
I thought maybe its because of the windscreens?

Maybe someone has an idea Thx!

Assuming that both your mics are cardiods, based on the fact that the -14 has a larger diaphragm and based on recordings I have heard, it shouldn't have less bass than the -11s.  And it certainly shouldn't be distorted.   Can you post a sample?  MP3 is fine.

But sorry, I just have got a wav file, no mp3 encoder here.
So it´s pretty short But you should hear it with earphones.

I hope it´s long enough to understand.
The Bass is just deep and a little "heavy". there are no "higher basses"... just a "kicking" Bassdrum...hard to describe

Bass response on the ca-11 is very good on the ca-14 its much better. You cant compare two mics from two different venues for low end.. Why because you dont have the same source. Set both side by side and then compare. The recording sounds like you were far away from the source. If you can do half and half of a show that would be interesting to hear. Also I dont detect any distortion in your recordings. I would consider an upgrade of your recorder. There is something funky with the iriver.

I was sitting in Row 9 of a venue with about 20 rows. So not THAT far away.
But I am satisfied with all my CA11 records. But both CA14 records sound that "hard kicking".
But you are right, I should try one show with both mics.

And which recorder would you recomme instead of Irver H120?

Maybe that not so good performance is a sign of the battery in the battery box is on it´s last legs...

Even if it's a "new" battery.  Check the battery voltage under load.  If it's below 7V, then I wouldn't trust it to make it through a show.

I would recommend getting a Sony PCM-M10 recorder, and start recording in 24bit
