Static throughout recording
« on: May 19, 2011, 11:15:07 PM »
Just recorded another one of my daughters band concerts. This time however there was an annoying amount of static throughout the entire show. I used the same setup and gear as before, simply CA-1 > Sony PCM-M10. Only thing I could think of is cell phone interference? Would that be a reasonable explanation or is there something else I might be missing?

Could you provide a sample of the problem?
Busman Audio BSC1-K1/K2/K3/K4 > HiHo Silver XLR's > Deck TBD

CA-14 (c,o)/MM-HLSC-1 (4.7k mod)/AT853(4.7k mod)(c,o,h,sc)/CAFS (o)/CA-1 (o) > CA-9100 (V. 4.1)/CA-9200/CA-UBB > Sony PCM-D50/Sony PCM-M10

If it's similar to the sample below the mobile phone is the culprit.

An instrument that converts sound waves into an electric current >
an electronic amplifier which precedes another amplifier to prepare an electronic signal for further amplification or processing >
a device to capture an analog or digital source and store the encoded data in a digital format.

Thanks for the sample. Definitely not the same sound. Mine is more of a crackle, something like the plug had a loose connection. I will look at the mics again and see if there is still a problem. Also I recorded my youngest daughters program with a different mic without any problem but I haven't tried the CA-1 since.
