small interruptions in recordings
« on: February 19, 2012, 05:32:38 AM »
I am recording for about an half year with my Edirol R-09HR internal mics mostly with good results but my last two recordings gives a lot of small interruptions in my recording.
If I use a programm like EAC (Exact Audio Copy) and I zoom in the wav.file you see for about 0,2 second a straight line in both channels and that means no music.
My question is : what can cause this problem ? I use rechargeable batteries many times and after an recording I formatt again my SD Cards.
Maybe these things are not the best things to do.  Is it possible that other equipment like mobile phones cause my interruptions ?

My other question : what is the best way to repair my recordings.
Any idea or help will be highly appreciated

That doesn't sound like mobile phone interference; that sounds like an issue with your card.  You may need a new one.  It's also possible that the connection internally for your mic is a little loose, but I'd look to the card first.  If you have a different card, it's worth testing with that.

have you been using the same card the whole time? they only last for so many write/rewrite operations
Please contact me if you've ever taped the Smashing Pumpkins or a related group!

I have 4 SD cards. When I use to record 16 bit 44 Khz I have 6 hours music.
Each card is used at most 4 times.
Maybe is testing the cards like a programm like Flash Memory Toolkit a possiblity.

for repairing the recordings, you can usually cut the dead air out for short segments and it's not noticeable. you can do so manually by finding selecting and cutting it, or there are find and remove silence macros in most programs. I use soundforge and cool edit, I think it is in both of them.

you could try formatting the cards as well

good luck!

You should format the card in the Edirol, not on your PC.  I had issues once when I changed input levels by hold the button down, rather than pressing and releasing for each step of changed level.
