Newbie question....
« on: June 14, 2012, 04:10:39 PM »
Hi,

Are there any digital recorders up to $300 that anyone can recommend that would simply:
1-Record a song from a Cd player.
2-Allow me to overdub vocals to the recorded song?

I looked at the Zoom H4n, but it doesn't seem to have imputs to accept the output of a standard CD player.

The recorder doesn't necessarily have to have imputs for instruments, as I only care to record a song from a CD, then overdub a vocal on top, so it is mixed into the original song.

Thanks for any replies!

I own a Tascam DR-2D (I bought mine new for $120) that enables you to overdub.

As far as inputs, you need a stereo RCA to 1/8" miniplug adapter, almost all recorders in your price range use stereo mini-jacks for inputs.

Radio Shack, Fry's, Best Buy, etc. Any retailer that sell's iPod accessories will have them.

Thanks ScoobieKW,

After reading your post I checked it out and bought a guaranteed brand new one with "slightly damaged retail packing" for $108.35 on Amazon.

Are there any firmware updates you recommend that I should download when I receive it?

Thanks for your help!

Definitely get the firmware update. The battery life on the unit isn't great, but the firmware update helps alot. I have the AC adapter for mine, There was a Tascam external battery box in the Yard Sale for supplemental power.
