hello,

I would like to seek some advice from experienced tapers for a planned recording setup:

I want to make recordings of a male performer giving lectures and singing using either a sanken cos 11-d bp lavalier, which can be powered either by the an AA battery or external 12-48V phantom power through its xlr connector, or the cos-11 d as headworn version, which requires external power of 2.5-12V.

for now, I planned to get a sony pcm d50 because of it's good internal mics (for occasions when recording hall/echo-room sound e.g. in a hall or a cave or a discussion), it's much praised sound quality and very low noise preamps (www.avisoft.com/recordertests, www.wingfieldaudio.com/portable-recorder-noise.html#samples), great battery life,
built quality, digital optical input for use with a higher grade preamp, etc.

I need to know how to power the cos 11-d headworn mic with 2.5-12V.
I was searching for a quality matching battery phantom power supply which doesn't add noise.
I was also suggested that it should be possible to power it by the sony's plug-in-power from the mic-in (I know that plug-in-power and phantom are 2 different things but I was suggested this option by someone).
Does this work ?
onother thing I found was the psc universal lavalier power supply
which transforms external phantom power to about 5V -but needs
external phantom power first.

can somebody suggest me an option for this combination?

ideal would be an in line battery supply which also accepts phantom power from an external device an transforms it to the appropriate
2.5-12V. -but I've yet not seen such a one.

another plan for later when using a studio mic for higher quality recordings is to use either a sound devices usb pre 2 or a mix pre d through the sony's digital in (or line in).

for such a setup an iphone/pod with a digital in or at least clean line-in would be really a great and multipurpose alternative.
has anybody experience with devices like the studio 6's iaudiointerface2 , line6 mobile in or other -spects, tests,
how do they perform compared to 'only' portable recorders?

if somebody has experience with these devices: soy pcm d50, sanken cos 11-d bp lavalier and headworn mic, matching phantom power supplies, connectors and usb pre 2/mix pre d with sony pcm d50 ideally in the combination I am planning I would be very happy to hear about how they work, sound, perform, are joined/linked together etc. all pros&cons.

concerning the option sd mix pre d with pcm d50 I got the following answer from sound device's tech support Stephen Fichter:

"...I have heard of some reports of the PCM D50 requiring a specific S/PDIF header in order to communicate with a device, and because the MixPre-D is an AES digital signal rather than S/PDIF, you would need a specific cable to match the impedance. This cable would be described " AES to S/PDIF converter cable". I am not certain if the issue of the D50 requiring the S/PDIF header has been resolved on Sony's end yet, but if not, sending digital out of the MixPre-D into the D50 would not work, meaning you would have to use the analog connections. There are a lot of hand held recorders out there, but the D50 is the only one I've heard reports of requiring this header..."

can somebody comment on this.
does the mix pre d work with the d50's optical in?
what about the usb pre 2?

could you kindly give advice whether my planned setup would work well or suggest any other setup, devices.

thanking you very much in advance for help and suggestions  :)

mixpre D no. usbpre2 yes.

thanks.
what about other portable preamps with higher than the Sony PCM D50's quality?
is it compatible with others, or is the issue only with the mix pre d?
