BSC1 and Naiant Tinybox?
« on: November 21, 2012, 07:19:47 PM »
Hi everyone, I see that there are some great prices on the Busman BSC1 set. I have recently bought a Tinybox, and have used it to open tape using my Church CA14s. I was very pleased with the result.

What do people think of the BSC1 package? I like the ability to change caps, and I also am impressed with the quality of the BSC1 recordings I have heard on the Archive.

Has anyone used the BSC1 > Tinybox combo? Are they a good match?

I am not looking to spend huge dollars on open taping mics as I don't have the opportunity to do it very often. I am willing to spend the extra money to upgrade the quality of my open recordings, but am not in the market to spend $1000+ on new mics.

Is the general thought that the BSC1s will be an upgrade to the sound I am getting out of the Church CA14s?

I am guessing yes, just from what I have heard on Archive, but I would like to hear from the more experienced taper community.

Thanks for any advice.

I have always been a fan of the Busman BSC1's.  Had I not gotten my AKG Bluelines, I would have gotten those.  I have never used them, but don't think you can beat them for the price.  Busman also modded some Avantone CK-1's, which, IMO, also sound good as hell.  ScoobieKW records with those, might want to check out some of his recordings.

There is Stealin' Strings show out on the LMA recorded with the BSC1's that sounds good as hell, it's in my regular rotation.

If you have not seen it, according to the following thread; "For Small Business Saturday the BSC1 stereo pairs are on sale for an unbelievable $375 plus shipping."

IMO the bm are an upgrade
I used them with a lb and like the results

XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D
