Church audio ca-10 omnidirectional microphones
« on: June 24, 2013, 11:01:59 AM »
Does anyone have any experiences with the Church Audio CA-10 omnidirectional microphones? I am seriously considering a pair for use with my Sony PCM-10 recorder. I intend to record ambient sounds (birdsong etc) and classical piano. This setup will not be the main one that I will use for recording piano as I use a Fostex FR2-LE and a pair of Rode NT4 microphones fitted with omni capsules for my 'proper' recording. I am simply looking for an easily portable improvement on the built in microphones on the Sony PCM-10.

Any comments would be gladly received. Many thanks!

I have NEVER heard of a CA10 microphone from Chris church ??? You sure you have the correct name? There are CAFS/CA11/CA14 mics but to my knowledge, that's it. If you're not recording LOUD sources, then you shouldn't need a battery box or preamp before the m10. However I would still use a 9100 preamp for some extra, clean gain ;) and its still a TINY setup! I have a small camera bag you could use with your setup that would make it very simple to carry around, preamp and all ;) $10 if you want it. It's an unused lowepro bag and would fit CA mics/9100/m10 perfectly!

The ca-10 is a very flat mic from 20hz to 20khz but have extended frequency response to 40khz they do not handle high spl but are designed for sound scape recording / ambient sounds

and a small amout was available via CA sale ... if I remember right some pics were uploaded here somewhere,
maybe a small search can help. I think chris stoped producing them shortly after he anounced them,
