Rycote pricing in US
« on: August 26, 2013, 03:28:41 PM »
Can anyone point to a good supplier of Rycote product for sales in the US. I'm searching for fair discount pricing. Markertek sales staff has failed to respond after 2 calls. B&H in NYC will only price at retail list, but will match any dealers price. I'm talking a couple products priced between $550 and $900 (ORTF - invision - windjammer combination), so there should be room to move.
Advanced thanks for the help.

I have a contact that I've gotten mine from. PM Sent.

(I can't remember if rycote has price controls or if selling under the MSRP is allowed is the only reason I don't post it publicly).

You might try calling Full Compass.  They will often give you a better price via phone than the one listed on the web.

John, for me the key phrases in the original post are

not where he can buy, but where he can buy below manufacturer suggested retail.

Sure appears that Rycote has a MAP policy in effect. Do you know if retail dealers are allowed to sell under MAP? Are they in danger of losing access to Rycote products if they sell below MAP?

Thank you everyone for the responses! Rycote product is the easy part, availability assured and reasonable quotes supplied. Now, I have to wait for Sennheiser  to weigh in on how long it will take to supply the 5 meter MZL cables for the 8000's.

Are the cables still a custom order?  There was a thread on this back in 2008 I think.  Sounded like it was/is a hassle to get 5 meter cables made.

Apparently all cables are contracted to a cabler by Sennheiser. The 'stock' 3 and 10 meter cables are produced in limited quantities based on demand with low stock on hand. Or, so says my email from Sennheiser US 'wired microphone' rep. I asked for pricing on 5 meter unterminated at XLR module end and / or 5m regular set.

Yes, based on previous threads on this subject I'd be best to wait for the cables in hand before purchasing the Rycote ORTF set. Rycote seems to be able to supply on demand. UNLESS, someone can confirm otherwise - The Senn MKH 8040 will not fit in the Rycote ORTF windshield without using the MZL cables. I don't feel it is really necessary to use the ConnBox connection, but will wait for the MZL's. Even chopped XLR's will be too large for the windshield, I have been told.

Again, thanks for the input. Send more comments if you are using the the ORTF windshield without the MZL cable connection.

Trade discount on Rycote is quite small and the dealer margin is not large - so I would not expect to see Rycote gear being sold cheaply.

Rycote bought a large number of MZL tails and can supply the ConnBox version from stock.
