Repair CA-14 Mics?

Is there anyone on the boards that would be capable of performing repairs on a set of CA-14 cards?  I've reached out to Chris but I know that he's a very busy dude...  I'm not familiar with the construction/inner workings of microphones so I'm not sure if repairing is even out of the question...

Basically, the issue is with one of the mics.  A slight bump of the cable causes the microphone to cut out and stop sending any signal on that channel.  I can adjust the microphone and get it to start recording again but the slightest bump will make it stop again.  I think this happened when I was trying to route the microphone through a tag loop on the back of my hat for cable management (which took some maneuvering) because I had just recorded a show the night before with great results.

Anyway, does this sound like something that can be repaired or should I start making a yard sale ISO post/buy a new pair from Chris?

The problem appears to be at the capsule end as far as I can tell.

If it was me, I would only send it to Chris to fix.

Yep, send em to Chris, but look to the yard sale for a used set if you need any while they are being repaired

I reached out to him via PM a few days ago but haven't heard back from him yet which is why I figured he may be busy...  Have people had better luck contacting him via e-mail?

Send him an email.  He runs a business and isn't on here every day.

ETA:  If I was him, I'd turn off my PMs and make folks email me.

I sent him a pair of my CA11 v2 for repair back in March which he confirmed he received on 14/03/14.
Still waiting for confirmation of repair and ship date. Sometimes takes 2 weeks for a response via email or PM which is usually a promise of " they'll ship next week"
Fortunately I've got other mics to see me through and I still wouldn't use anyone else for repairs to his gear.

That's been my experience also.  I've been waiting on my 9200 repair since April 7 and I get similar statements back when I email, if I get a response at all.  I'm beginning to think I'll never see it again.

To answer the original question, I would say that Chris is the only person I would trust 100% to fix his stuff, but unfortunately you really can't know when you'll get it back.  I'd recommend picking up a used set instead.

I've sold an older pair of CA-11s in the YS that needed rewiring. The buyer claimed a friend who knew their soldering was able to get them in working condition. It's possible, but sounds like you have to find someone who knows what they are doing.

That said, Chris does indicate he is the only person in the world with proper tools to fix the mics.
