Grace space bar with modded rycote mounts***new pics****
« on: January 09, 2015, 10:59:02 PM »
got a very nice deal on the space bar.  a tad heavier than i would like,  but the functionality of it makes up for the weight.  was looking to keep the mic mounts/shock mounts on the low pro side because of the extra height of the grace mounts/adjusters.   with the schoeps AC mounts 180.00 a pop,  i came up with this idea.  im using rycote replacement mounts.  i drilled out the mounting whole to fit the machined screw that holds the grace mount together.  also sanded the base of the rycote to even things out and to thin it out so the grace screw was long enough.  in hind sight,  i think i should of went to the hardware store for a tad longer screw so i could of used 2 washers to sandwich on the top and bottom of the rycote mount as to keep the integrity of the base of the mount.  by no means is this set up week or frail,  but with a longer screw and the 2 washers would made the fit and finish much nicer.  the rycote mounts seem plenty durable and r deff cheap enough.   ed

Nice work Ed!
Should we be concerned about the dead body on the floor in the last pic?   :o

Looks great minus the dead body. I lusted after that Grace bar for a few months, looks like it's worth the weight for sure.
I know you like, tape for people's approval and stuff, and wave your tapes around like they're your dick...  but even you can't actually think section tapes from philips sound good.

Very professional looking, nice setup! I also run my mics in a single lyre, detailed here:

^^^^^^^.   Nice job yourself.  After looking at your pics,  i remember now when u posted that.  I would imagine machining a piece of derlin with your design and have angle marks eitched in would be pretty cheap material wise, light and effetive, finding someone to machine it another story.   But deff nice to see other DIY projects!!!     Ed

<pet peeve mode on> if you post more pics could you place the object you are trying to feature against a neutral uncluttered background <pet peeve mode off>

in the case of your spacebar, the only place I see with a blank background would be to put your stand on the landing so the bar is the only thing in the pic besides the blank wall; however, I think this is the first time I have seen a prone body in the background so +T for that  8)

Awesome pics Ed! Thanks for adding a few with the caps in the pics too 8) Man, now you have me thinking. I love my NBob SGC clips, because they're super small and fit in both of my gear bags very easily, but damn if I don't want the setup you have ;) I rarely run my caps outside of my active NOLABars, but those few venues where I have to run PAS, this would really put me at ease, with each cap being shockmounted, rather than my whole vark bar being shockmounted ;D 8)

Thanks for the pics!
