Before doing any modifications, maybe record with your CM-300s out in the field a few times, see how they sound to you, and decide if they even need a mod.  You might be pleasantly surprised?

Not sure what that mod is about...but walstib62 has been the resident Nak Mod Man for a while...he did a chop and Phantom Mod that sounded real nice to my ears on a Teac Clone ME-80 set I had...

^  The Datsunzgarage mod [http://datsunzgarage.com/nak/] is a circuit modification that changes out resistors and capacitors to, supposedly, improve the sound and reduce noise of the Nak CM-300.  I can't comment on that one way or another, and I have no skin in the game, but a few of our resident circuit builders/electronics guys (Jon @ Naiant, hi and lo) were a little dubious.  The mod doesn't change the mic's appearance or the need to use a battery.

Agreed. Try them first. I have Nak 300's, Tascam PE-120 Clones, and CM700's. All sound great to me without modification, but I have enough of these mic bodies now now that I'm going for a Sank P48 mod on a pair so I can run my shotguns without batteries. Spyder9 has a pair of CM-1000's with the Sank P48 mod and speaks highly of them

That set is too nice to butcher up. IMO, grab a set that has some miles on them if you want to mod, and keep those as-is. Again, just my opinion. I was this close to pulling the trigger when I saw that post go up in the YS. Doh!!

Ok, I'm just going to say that after the first few shows last week with the Sank Phantom Power Modification, that these cm300's are the shit now! No more batteries and most importantly they sound freaking amazing.

How do think they compare sound wise to your 700's?

Pretty sweet. I haven't gotten into the 700 source yet, but I ran it on the same stand so it should be interesting to listen to the two side by side. I'll keep you posted.

Diameter is 21mm, gormenghast.

AT8410a mounts are the sturdiest, but you can find others.
