No, but isn't that security guy Willie?  He was a staple at all the Dead shows I attended in the SF Bay Area in the 80's.

No idea, I never saw shows there, but cool you recognize him.

No idea, I never saw shows there, but cool you recognize him.

I remember him from the front of the line at Greek Theater SF Civic Auditorium and Kaiser shows.  He was pretty cool and enjoyed the deadheads but he was not one to mess with although he rarely had to show that side.  I am sure at least a few other tapers on here remember him too.

"When it came time to go in, you got into a line that snaked around the side of the building. As you approached the front entrance, you'd be greeted by a deep, welcoming and cheerful voice calling out, "Have you tickets out and ready!" This voice belonged to a legend among Deadheads and a mainstay of the Kaiser scene. Clyde Williams, affectionately known as Willie, was the front door security guard. Wille never had to do much real securing, as us heads were always so blissed out and happy to be there. Wille was an African American fellow of medium build, around 60 years old. A close cropped, salt and pepper afro peeked out from under a cap that he wore at a jaunty angle. His  police style uniform had  a badge on its chest. Willie's eyes were sparkly and alive and he was always smiling. Here was a man who clearly loved his work. He was so sweet and good natured. Everyone hugged on Willie, girls were always kissing on him too. He'd usually have mardi gras beads draped around his neck, flowers in his cap and Grateful Dead stickers on his jacket. He was one of us. You hadn't really arrived at the Kaiser until Willie told you to have your ticket out and ready."

I remember Willie. One of the mainstays for Kaiser and later most BGP events in the bay area. I think they even imported him out to Cal Expo the first few times I was there (83/84)
The girls certainly did all love to hug Willie and give him beads and such. great memory.

So dude was bootlegging Dick Gregory? I'd actually LOVE to hear that tape. damn. Thinking more on this, I'd bet the recording was at one time in the FBI file for Gregory.

I just stumbled across this post while looking for something else, but yes, that would be cool to hear that recording!
I'm pretty sure I've never heard or seen a Dick Gregory bootleg before!!

While we're on 1972, I don't recall or see any mention of the book 'A Pig's Tale' from last year, detailing the Trade Mark of Quality bootleg label.  Fascinating picture of the scene then, plenty of taper tales.
