Milab - Pearl Micophones to file for bankruptcy
« on: August 16, 2025, 11:04:33 AM »

Mattias Stromberg - who was a member here for a while, not sure if he still has us on his radar - has announced that Milab/Pearl will be filing for bankruptcy. He's asking people for leads to a new work opportunity so I guess it's very real.

Bummer. Milab/Pearl made some very innovative products like their large rectangle diaphragm mics.

A few tapers have used the VM44 SD mics and the remote capsule version - the Link - over the years and I know one Oregon taper who uses a pair of the DC196 LD mics. Here's a Zero tape with the DC196 mics ceiling hung FOB in the Faulkner array with some MBHO KA300 in NOS mixed in. FOH sound by the taper's own Charlie Miller. - https://archive.org/details/zero2022-07-30.-AA-fob-MilabDC196-mbhoKA300/zero2022-07-30-set2-AA-fob-milabDC196-mbhoKA300-03.flac

LC-25 was the go to vocal mic for Grateful Dead for many years, only being replaced by b&k 4011(?) when they went to in ear monitors in 1992

It's a great mic for vocals and other stuff like drums too. I used to have one and used it on snare more than any other mic.

This makes me sad, they make such great and unique microphones.  There will be a big hole in the market if they are truly gone.
Mics: DPA 4060 w/MPS 6030 PSU/DAD6001/DAD4099, Neumann KM 131, Oktava MK 012, Sennheiser MKH 105, MKH 20, MKH 30, MKH 40, MKH 800 TWIN, Rode NT-FS1.
Recorders: Zoom F8n, Sony MZ-R50
