6v V2 Battery Options
« on: December 06, 2021, 06:22:24 PM »
I read through a few recent threads, but it seems like batteries in the 6v/9v option are harder to find than they used to be.  I have this currently, at least, this is what it looks like:

http://www.globalmarket.com/product-info/power-bank-for-notebook-laptop-battery-charger-tablet-power-supply-8175877.html

When I bought it, it was sold under the name PowerBank MP20000A (I'm shocked to admit this, but I just looked at emails and I think I bought it in 2011 - I'm not sure that's true, maybe I bought a second at some point, but it's certainly possible).  It has a button to select the voltage and I set it to 9v when running the v2.  There's no power switch, which I like because it's one less thing to bump at a show.  Then at some point I found it as "RAVPower 23000mAh Portable Charger Power Bank External Battery Pack(Xtreme Series,3-Port,9V/12V/16V/19V/20V - LCD Display)" when recommending it to someone else (2015).  Now when I look at Amazon, I don't see any selectable voltage packs.  I think I can change the v2 to 12v, but won't it just blow that voltage off, aka heat up?  I see the Talentcell options, but they only have a 12v barrel output.

I just bought a Sonosax sx-m2d2, which you can power with USB in addition to the internal 18650.  I was thinking I'd buy a new version of my current battery because I don't know that it'll last my running a v2 and m2d2 on USB for a whole show (running DPA 4023s and 4028s).

Is there a good option out there for something that'll do a barrel DC out and USB simultaneously for 6v-9v?  Or can you run a v2 off of the 5v from a USB plug?

Thanks!

Evidently I can't read.  I thought the yellow plug was for input only, I see now it says 9v output on that one and 12v in/out on the black barrel:

I’m thinking about bringing my v2 out of retirement. Is this talentcell still the best option?

Also I’ll need to hack an old power cable from a long dead battery. Is the polarity an issue with the v2?

Don't forget the power in on the V2 is a 4 pin XLR connector. maybe PM Ted to see if he has a schematic or something.

Thanks. I have a 4 pin xlr cable that went to the output on an older battery. I was going to terminate the battery side but don’t remember if the v2 is polarity specific.

From: https://www.gracedesign.com/support/v2_manual_a.pdf
POWER SUPPLY CONNECTIONS
A four pin XLR connector is used for the DC power input of the V2. The V2 can be ordered
to operate from either 6 or 12 Volt power sources. Pins 1 and 2 are ground and pins 3 and
4 are either 6 or 12V DC. To avoid compatibility problems it is recommended that 6 Volt
systems be wired to use pin 3 for hot (+6v) and pin 2 for ground while 12 Volt systems
should be wired to use pin 4 for hot (+12v) and pin 1 for ground. The V2 current draw
ranges from .38A to .62A depending on the microphone used.

edit- I see beatkilla beat me to it!
