I really feel like I got away with one. My 442 shit the bed.
I reached out to SD and it was a $942 ish to just open it up.
I found a sound guy living on a golf course in Cali who had one for sale on e-bay. I dickered.
$400. It arrived in the original packaging everything, all the cardboard, the manual, everything. I'm aghast.
I called SD and asked if they wanted my unit that I would ship for free to use for parts or testing- and they declined nicely.
I'm ecstatic. I fucking love the sound of the 442 pre's into my recorder. This is my sound.
I can't tell you how happy I am. I hugged the delivery driver and had a great conversation.
I cannot again, tell you how psyched I am. I spoke with SD, and they sent me stickers for my faders. (We found some in the back somehow, what is your address?) How amazing is that?!
Good people still exist. Have the faith, and also, a 5 year alert on the ebay still comes up once in a very long while.
I am an atheist, but I do believe in karma. Mint, with paperwork, perfectly clean, unscratched 442. In the box, wrapped from the factory with plastic and paper.
Mind blown. Many shows to come .......... Patience is key.
RIP my last recording with my last brick, barely the LED's working and the power out connection was Fbar:
https://archive.org/details/wb2026-04-01 Still pulled it off. BARELY.
Mods: feel free to move this to the drama forum. I tried to place it the best I could.
Is it weird to be dancing around the room at 50 about some old technology? I think not!
A 442 retailed for $3k when it came out which is $5.5k today. Imagine swallowing a $5.5k nut right now in your life. I couldn't, but I can record some amazing shows to make it very worthwhile. Ha. Still giddy AF.
If that last recording was my last, I would be very happy.
And also a big thank you to Dank for the hypers. Such a great person to deal with. I recorded ^^^ that from the very very back of a theater above many hundreds of people.
