Need some quick help for a show tonight
« on: July 14, 2004, 12:44:17 PM »
hey,
ok so RAQ is playing in boone tonight and i'm 99% sure that they won't be running everything through the board, so i won't be able to patch out of it.  however a guy i work with is getting some mic, which i'm assuming is just going to be a stereo single point.  anyway i'm usually a patcher so i need a little help.  what i really need is just some info on the 0db - 10db switch on my M1.  i remember one time i used someones AT 822 and at the start of the recording the sound was distorted, but not brickwalled.  i then switched the db and it fixed it, but it was so long ago i don't remember which one i switched it to.  does the switch add or subtract the dbs?  it is going to be in a small club and i'm sure it's going to be fairly loud.  any info is greatly appreciated, as well as any tricks you can shoot my way.

Mike if you can be there for the soundcheck it will help immensely. That way you can experiment. The brickwalling couldve been caused by a dying battery or overloading the mic input of the M1. If you can rule out the battery then next I would try going line in on the M1...if you don't get hot enough levels running line in, then try running mic in with the 10db pad (this cuts the signal)

hope this helps

cool...never thought of running line in instead of mic in.  hopefully i'll be able to mess around a bit before the show.

well looks like it worked out pretty well.  the guy had some sort of sony condensor.  it didn't have any numbers on it so i'll have to look it up.  anyway i ran mic in with 20db switch and that seemed to do the trick.  only problem was first set was 1:05 so i decided to push my luck and leave in a 90m to try and get the whole show and missed half of the last song...oh well better than nothing.  thanks for the help.
