Optical Problem
« on: August 09, 2004, 05:45:28 PM »
I looked through the archives, but didn't find anything about this particular topic.

I have a brand new UA-5 and a Used (ebay) JB3.  I have recorded stuff to my computer, and finally got the Optical cable from radio shack + adapter.

When trying to record to the JB3, i set it to optical in/wav and nothing. The UA-5 is not modified, so it is still connected to the computer. but nothing is happening on the JB3.

It goes preparing the recording, to recording, to saveing.. but nothing?

Any thoughts?  Did I get ripped off?

Thanks,
Drew

few things.  first are you getting the light coming out of the optical out on the ua-5?  that light should come through if you are conencted to the computer.

second, update your firmware.

Firmware for the JB3 is the latest.. 1.40 or something.. and lastly, Red Light out of the optical is on.  Any other Ideas?

Still no love?!

Thank you,
Drew

Is the UA-5 selected as the output device for your pc sound?
KM 184 > V2 > R4
older recording gear: UA-5  / emagic A62 / laptop / JB3 / CSB / AD20 / Sharp MT-90 / Sony MDS-JE510
Playback: Pioneer DV-578 > Lucid DA 9624 >many funny little british boxes > Linn Isobarik PMS

Thanks guys for all your help... but I said F*&k it and went ahead and modded the UA-5 anyway. I only wanted to make sure everything worked before I modded it, but since i couldn't figure out the USB out to the UA-5 I went ahead and modded it anyway.

Everything is operational, patient survived!! Recoreded some stuff on the JB3 this morning and played it back. Nice.

Thanks for all your input!!

Drew.
