I've aready built my own battery box... but the point is, that the SP battery box has for example a variable bass roll-off, and also other options which can be useful... and the building plans on the net that i've seen so far, don't offer such options.

And I'm no electronic engineer and not able to built such a box on my own

I bet the variable roll-off is achieved by using several condensors. By connecting them in different ways (e.g. by some switches) you get different total capacity and therefore different roll-off freq. I hope it's clear, my English sucks 

All you have to do is write down required roll-off frequencies, calculate capacaties accordingly, choose 2-5 condensers matching calculated capacities when connected together... etc.
