DAT StartID transfers to hard drive?
« on: January 20, 2005, 12:04:36 PM »
(Yeah, I searched; StartID had no hits, and Start ID had 377 pages worth)

Is there any way to import Start IDs into a computer? I've got dozens of DATs, all with StartIDs where I want them. Great for burning to a standalone, but mine will burn out eventually. When I move to a computer-based system, I'd hate to have to go through the same process to re-archive my shows in a data format. Any hope?

as far as I know there is no way of doing it.   tracking in cd wave is very easy and if you have the track times already (you do)  it would be very easy.

all i gotta say is, ditch that system and go to tracking w/ redbook standards w/ cd wave

You have to re-archive...

Bear in mind you are creating a supieior archive if you are using a data format...the copies you create from the data sets will be better than the copies you make from the CD-Rs or (IMO) the DAT>CD-Rs themselves...

Wavelab 5.0 will get startid's from DAT. Check the recording pref's. It should be in there.
I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can

Thanks for the info.  A little googling and it seems like both Wavelab and Samplitude will do this.

I guess the next question is whether any sound card with a S/PDIF input will work.  The RME DIGI96/8 PAD claims to, but it is not cheap ($299).  I guess time is money, and time is what I'd be saving using a more expensive sound card and software.  Decisions, decisions...
