Schoeps MK4 v. DPA 4022 COMP

FAR from a perfect comp - different seats (though right next to each other), slightly different mic configs (DINA v. ORTF), slightly different recording levels, slightly different preamps (SX-M2 v. SX-M2/LS2), etc.  BUT, still oughta give an idea of the differences between these two setups.  Thanks to Josh for the DPA source!

I prefer the DPA source in this instance, but for most stealth recording - where the environment isn't nearly as friendly as this one - I prefer the ability to run the MK41s.  No chance I'm giving 'em up!

how much of a factor is the type of music in a comparison like this?  I'm curious if dpa's are better with certain types of music over other mics, or vice-versa.  I know that I've read that the results using dpa's have a lot to due with environment, but not much on what types of music they are more suited for...

I would say the type of music is not a factor, just the acoustic environment. DPA's are in general very transparent so your tape will sound like what the show sounded like at the spot where your mics were at. So if you are at a crappy sounding place you will hear just how bad it was on your tape. Or if it sounds great your tape will be smokin', regardless of what type of sounds/music you were recording.  Just my 2 cents.

Nice, +T Brian. Both these are on my shortlist for my next set of mics, so I'm very interested in hearing this comparison.

Having said that, I've heard many smoking recordings made with each... I suspect whatever I end up choosing, I won't be disappointed

Finally got a chance to really listen and compare the two.
I think I preferred Source B ~ but, boy, is it a close call.  They both sound fantastic.
Trust me, I'd be estactic to pull either !!
