Mounting slimline mics, what's my options?
« on: April 02, 2005, 11:24:57 PM »
Here's my mics:

I normally go to stealth shows, but there's a few shows coming up where I can tape in the open. I bought a Bogen 3333 (thanks to cheshirecat), and I picked up the two adapters to get it to work with microphones (for when I get open mics), but I'm not aware of any T-bars designed for holding the mics I currently have.

First, ARE there in fact any devices, T-bar or otherwise, that are designed for holding the small-bodied mics like the AT853s/SP-CMC-8s/etc?

If not, what would be my best option? Is there something I could use that's meant for full-size mics that I could gerry-rig to work with the clips shown in the photo? If not, do you guys have any ideas on what I could top the stand off with to mount the mics? I'm in between projects at work, and I have plenty of time to DIY something up, but I'm not really sure where to start if it came to that.

You could try the akg km-235 standard adjustable t-bar and clip the mics to it.   Pretty small and light.  You could probably copy the design and improve on it for your own needs if you are a true DIYer.

from SS website:
    AKG KM-235 Universal Horizontal T-Bar
    7", highly adjustable
    $17.50

pictures available here: (or by googling the product number)

I poked around more for a minibar or something specifically for the slimlines, and didn't see anything...the AKG bar will do the trick as long as it's thin enough for the clips to squeeze on to...seems to be...and it'll be good for when I get a full rig. I'm finding myself buying more and more AKG products...I like this :)

+Thanks, goose!

You can use gaffer's or duct tape and tape the clips to the top of any standard t-bar.

Apparently AT makes some adapters for the 853s to mount on stands. See the pictures in this thread.

Here's what I've been using for mine.

I took a yardstick, cut off a foot, so it's 24" and drilled a hole in the center.
I put a washer under the yardstick so there's a little more surface area for it to rest on and voila a $3 T-bar.

I've actually used something very similar and it's great for omnis!  It doesn't leave much open for running configurations with cards and hypers though.
