Hey 744 owners have you thought about trying this?

I was wondering whether using a cross over cable and recording bass and mid/highs on separate channels might be practical. This way you could mix the two without having to use a HPF at record time.

Seems like some of the passive crossover cables used in car audio might do the trick.

Just a thought.

Why not just record with no bass roll off, then eq'ing the bass in post?

Because most of your energy is in the low end so your not getting good resolution at mid/high frequencies. This way you can capture both near full scale and mix down.
