I am a newbie and am wandering the best way to record SBD > laptop (I'm a newbie can anyone help?)
I was planning on using a 1/8" plug into the mic input of the laptop. Any suggestions and input is greatly appreciated!

that might work but I think you could easily overload the mic input. If you do this it would be best to ask the soundguy to give you a fairly low level signal.

Better would be some external device that can take a line level analog signal.

Do you have any other gear yet or are you starting from scratch? How much do you want to spend to get this up and running?

Ps: Ben, the Poison avitar brings a smile to my face every time I see it. Yeah, I admit it. I've seen them 3 times, even drove over 4 hrs a couple times to see them back in the day. " C.C. pick up that guitar and talk to me...."

Love that line, plus of course C.C.'s shredding that follows right after!! 

Wish I could have seen them back in the day, never seen' em live and want to but reluctant these days to shell out the $40 or more that it costs now. Bret Michaels and Friends played here last year but no way I am going without getting to see C.C. on the stage rippin' it up.

BTW there are many devices that will allow you to do this, a few that come to mind are

echo indigo soundcards
Sound devices USBPre (mic inputs and phantom also on this one)
Edirol UA5 (also mic inputs and phantom)
M-audio (transit??)

sure there are a ton more out there too, choices will depend on if you will want to run mics with your device or if you will just be taking line level signals.
