« on: September 21, 2005, 11:58:17 AM »
I need to start with audio.. then ill jump up to video afterwards. But where can i find a rig that will come out 'decent' thats not very expensive. Ive heard about the Sony MZ-R90 MD recorder.. is that any good?

if you will share the amount of your budget with readers we will know what to suggest, skip minidisc altogether and pick up an inexpensive dat machine or even better a used JB3; by the way, this topic has been repeatedly posted about, if you will scroll back on this topic in this and other portals you will see similar posts and loads of recommendations

You can get a JB3 for $150.  Better than the minidisc recorder.

you can get a jb3 for about that ($150)

then pick up these mics:

or if they are gone get a pair of studio project c4s for around $250-$300.

Then find a stock (digi-mod) UA5 (~$200) which supplies your gain and analog>digital conversion and you are in business.  All you need to get after that is a stand ($30), some mic cables ($25) an akg t-bar to mount the mics on the stand with ($15) and a battery($30)/cable ($15) to power the UA5

For around $700 you will have a very good sounding rig

gear bag (if you don't have a good bag already) - optical cable - if you go with the octavas you'll need shockmounts - you'll want something to carry/protect your mics - be prepared to spend more than what you forecast it will cost you, there is always something else, and then when you think you have everything, you're probably gonna wanna upgrade!!
JW mod AKG 460b (ck61/ck63 or mk46/ck1x/ck3x)>  EAA PSP-2 > 722

Segue Dogstar XLRs and Interconnects

ISO: (2) ck2x
