Schoeps KCY250 Active cable length mod DIY?

Someone at TS mentioned getting Schoeps to shorten the front half of their KCY250 cable to make it less bulky..

I've never looked at one of those cables closely.  Could someone good with an iron DIY?  Any special tools required?
