Topic: Audiophile 2496 install help needed

I've installed the hardware but I'm at a standstill installing the driver because I keep getting this message:

"The software you are installing for this hardware has not passed Windows logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP"

It goes on to say that installing could basically eff everything up blah blah...

It gives you two options, install anyway and stop installation. I've opted to stop until I've heard from the experts here at TS.

Anyone run into this? What shall I do do you think? I've downloaded the latest driver from M-Audio's website for the XP driver but get the same message.

Just hit continue. The reason that pops up is because the M-Audio drivers are not digitally signed by Microsoft (which costs lots of money). It won't mess anything up. Promise.

however, be sure to grab the latest and greatest version of the drivers for this card from M-audio's website.

just another note, and you probably will figure it out...you might have to change the defaults on your media player(s) to output the the M-Audio 2496, especially if you might have a pre-installed or integrated s/card...otherwise enjoy the s/card, it is quite easy to use, the interface is simple, and it sounds great!

thanks for the tip but I need just a bit of clarification.

I went to:

start>
settings>
control panel>
sounds and audio devices

clicked the "audio" tab and in the sound playback field Intel(r) Integrated Audio was selected. When I went to change it to the M-Audio setting I discovered there are a few settings you can use and they are:

M-Audio Delta AP Multi
M-Audio Delta AP 1/2
M-Audio Delta AP S/PDIF

Which one should it be? All of them seem to work with sound files but I want to make sure I have everyhting exactly as it should be.

Is there any way to hook up RCA cables coming from the sound card into my amp so I can play files on my comp and listen through my stereo? I have figured out that I can hook up the DAT to the soundcard and monitor it on the stereo so I thought there must be a way to do this too.

thats the way to change the settings, or you can do it for each individual program too....


M-Audio AP Multi is for mulitpurpose and MIDI outs
M-Audio AP 1/2 is the first two analog (rca) outs
M-Audio AP S/PDIF is digital out

the last two are the most common configs


well, you can out put to your amp/receiver two ways, via S/PDIF(coax) to access the full range of the digital media, or RCA cables...both of these are OUTputs from your card. I have the M-Audio going thru an amp via RCA and use it to monitor my DAT transfers and also to listen to media from my computer. However, there is a little trick to this....in your M-Audio Control Panel, in 'Hardware Settings', under 'Master Clock' you must have 'Internal Xtal' checked if you want to listen to your computer sounds or you music thru your stereo, or have' S/PDIF' checked when you are inputting a digital signal such as your DAT to which you want to listen to on your computer. The 'Patchbay/Router' section also must be configured to let the s/card know which way you hare inputting/outputting the signal. For example in the first column, 'H/W Out 1/2' you can use 'WaveOut 1/2' or 'Monitor Mixer' if you are outputting via RCA.

to put it simply you have to organize the way in which the signal comes into your card, and which way you want it to exit....
