Topic: so I taped Perpetual Groove last night and had some problems

Hey guys,

I went to see perpetual groove last night @ Zydeco got there early to set up and was given a board patch...no problems so far but here is the thing as soon as the show started I was checking my levels on the DAT and noticed they were terribly low...I asked the sound guy if there was any way he could turn me up and he said yes and raises my levels all the way...well problem is my signal is still low.  I had my record volume up all the way and it was only when the songs were at their peaks that i would get a decent signal.  My question is could I have done anything differently from my end to fix this?  I was running my TCD-D10 Pro II and ran 1/4 to xlr inputs on the dat...now when i have taped locally here for a firend of mines band and patched in to his board i have never had any issues with a low signal...any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated.

I plan on trying to boost the over all levels with wavelab to see if it will help things out...

Was he giving you Aux sends, or a tape out, or a dedicated recored sub group?  Maybe there is a switch somewhere that was engaged that sent you a mic level signal?  Because all of the above should be sending you a very hot line level signal, very interesting indeed.  But maybe with an AUx out, he had the master Aux send all the way up, but not to hot at the actual channels?  Was it an even sounding mix?

Might be wrong but I don't think that there is any output on consoles that send a mic level signal.

Do you know what output you were getting? What it was called specifically I mean? Any idea the make and or model of console?

i am not sure of the out put i was getting i can go back and find out as for the make and model of the console all i do know is that it was a mono board

Plenty of mixers offer mic level out, it is sometimes essential.  Many cameras only take mic level, or other sub mixers.  And it is a hard to reach, recessed button that is designed not to be accedentally engaged.  It is a long shot but still a possibility
