SSIA.

Thinking of trying Schoeps! Have AKG 480/1/2/3. Wanted to know if I was stuck on a desert island with all my band favorites and only one capsule which would I want? MK4 or MK41? BTW, this island has all types of venues. Thanks for opinions.

Whichever sounds better to your ears, with the rest of your recording gear, in the majority of environments in which you record, on your playback system.  Not the answer for which you're looking, I'm sure, but...there it is.

Substitute the AKG caps for your question.  You run them, so you can answer yourself - if you had to have only one, which would you choose:  CK61 or CK63?  Pick the Schoeps equivalent.  They're both great caps, IMO.

MK4

I used to own 480's for a short while before I moved onto Schoeps......one of the best decisions I made for sure.  Granted, I need the mk4's for more than just taping shows so YMMV.  However I thought difference between the schoeps and akg's, for taping, were night and day to my ears.

what preamp are you running?

hmmm - i owned a pair of cmc6s with mk4 caps and never felt like they lived up to the standard set by my AKG c481s.  if i had to choose a schoeps capsule, it would definitely be the mk41.  however, i finally wound up selling the schoeps and going back to my c481s and the dpa 4011s - both are as good as it gets in my book.

From a good spot the 4's are more versatile. From outside the impact zone the 41's are hard to beat.

Go with 4's...and if you can sport it...some 4V's.  8)

They are alot more versatile IMO.
