R1 display backlight power usage?
« on: November 06, 2005, 05:35:28 AM »
I'm curious if anyone has actually done a test to see how much more power the Edirol R1 used when you have the display backlight permanently enabled.  I ran mine tonight with the backlight on for the entire set, but I knew it was going to be under 90 minutes total.  I have to say I was still nervous since I have no idea what impact this has on the battery draw.  We're talkin brand new pair of liths, supposed to last 8+ hours for recording without the lighting.  Any ideas?

IS there a reason why you use the backlight the entire time?  I have it set for like 10seconds or so, just enough to check the levels.  With it set like that, and being a neurotic level-checker, I get 4hours or so on a set of Energizer 2500mAh rechargables that have had prolly about 100 uses on them.
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

Is it an LED backlight?  If so, probably draws next to nothing in terms of current.

well when open taping it's nice to be able to see the level meter clearly.  i just wanted to make sure i was running the mics hot but not clipping.  unlike you though, i get my recording going and then i lock the recorder and leave it locked and watch the level indicator.  I'm not flicking the lock back and forth and flipping through displays and what not...

with the unit on hold and the display set to show meters you can activate the light by just hitting the jog-wheel-thingy if you want to check levels without having to change the hold switch

I'm gonna try this!  Thanks much!
