Topic: AT853s and handling noise

Does anyone have any tips for reducing handling noise on the AT853s? These things are hyper-sensitive to any touching or rubbing on the mic bodies or cords and I was hoping to have them serve double duty as clip-on interview mics.

fwiw, i have stealthed several shows and i have not encountered any handling noises.  i wear my mics mounted inside croakies and cables all over my body.  lots of contact... no noise.

When I got my 4061's, I ran them into my pre and listened with headphones as I handled them.  They are *quiet*.  I did the same thing with my borrowed AT853, aka SP-CMC4's, and they were very very sensitive.   Touching the cables near the body, the body, etc.  It is a big advantage of the 4061 that is not often mentioned.

I'm not sure how to improve the AT's.. Make sure your cable is secured shortly after exiting the body?

That's the second time I've heard that regarding the 4061s. The problem is that the AT853s (SP-CMC4s in this case) may do very well in high-level environments where the music is pushing any handling noises way down into the background, but in a quiet environment (such as for interviews as I mentioned in my initial post) where it's either someone talking or relative silence with nothing to mask the handling noise it's a different story.

I'll try looping the cable near the mic body and seeing if that helps. I may need to switch to the 4060s or 4061s though for the versatility. (I need them for ambient recording and music also.)
